Digital Organisation
Finding a document, a favourite photo, or your next task should take less effort. A few simple habits can make your phone and computer easier to manage. Start with one cluttered area, give the things you keep a clear home, and build a routine you can repeat.
Give your files a clear home
Create a small set of folders based on how you look for things: Work, Home, Personal Projects, and Archive, for example. Add subfolders when they help you find something faster.
Use filenames that explain what a document contains. “2026-10-electricity-bill.pdf” is easier to recognise than “download-17.pdf”. Keep the same naming pattern for similar documents.
Treat Downloads as a temporary holding area. Move useful files into their folders, review unfamiliar items, and remove copies you no longer need. If you use cloud storage, Google’s guide to organising files in Google Drive explains folders, shortcuts, and starred items.
Make your photo library easier to browse
Begin with recent photos instead of trying to sort your entire collection. Review unwanted screenshots, blurry shots, and repeated images, then create a few useful albums for holidays, family occasions, or ongoing projects.
Choose descriptive album names such as “Summer Holiday 2026”. Apple’s guide to creating photo albums on iPhone explains how to group pictures in the Photos app.
Before deleting large batches, check that important originals have a separate backup and understand how deletion affects your connected devices.
Keep daily tasks in one place
Choose one place to capture tasks: a notes app, a reminder list, or a task manager you already use. Write each item as a clear action, such as “Book the laptop repair” or “Sort the holiday photos”.
Use your calendar for appointments and activities that need a time slot. Add task deadlines when they matter, and review unfinished items regularly.
Build a routine that stays manageable
Try a ten-minute weekly reset
Set aside a short session each week to:
- File useful downloads and review desktop clutter.
- Sort recent photos and remove unwanted screenshots.
- Review your task list and choose your next priorities.
- Check that backups have completed.
If ten minutes feels too much, start with one folder or five photos. Small, regular sessions make digital organisation easier to maintain.
